If you keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you surely know all about Pom Klementieff’s portrayal of Mantis in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. The alien is silly, has a huge heart, and loves her friends above all else, even if she wants to beat up Drax at any given moment. Now, though, Klementieff is stepping away from the unbridled goodness of Mantis for her villainous turn in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 and couldn’t be any more thrilled.
“I just enjoyed it so much… it’s just like things are on the edge,” the actress said of their turn as the villainous Paris, an assassin tasked with dispatching Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and Grace (Hayley Atwell). If you’ve seen the clips from the wild car chase featured in the movie, you should be very aware of just how “on the edge” Paris is, as she smashes through the streets of Rome in an armored SUV, attempting to kill Ethan.
According to Klementieff, she conceived of the character with Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie. However, she also called out the costuming, hair, and makeup departments on the film for bringing Paris to life. Come from Sports betting site VPbet
“We have to talk about the costume,” she said. “You know, Jill [Taylor], who designed the costumes, and the hair and makeup people, we create the character with all these things.”
As you can see from the image above, the clothes certainly do set a tone for Paris, which helped Klementieff embrace just how dark and disturbed her character could get.
“[The role] has a darkness to it and insanity that I don’t think we’ve seen in the female characters before,” Klementieff continued. “I mean this level of intensity in the fight.”
That’s the one trait that likely carried over from Mantis. After all, that particular character was always ready for a fight. Of course, the MCU character also spoke quite a bit–a stark contrast from the quiet rage bubbling over in Paris. Is there anything scarier than an assassin that is hellbent on killing you without a word?
You’ll be able to find out for yourself when Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 hits theaters on July 12.
